Jay took me out on a mistery date, he told me dress confortable and wear flat shoes, we have to be there by 7pm. He took me to see Switchfoot and Blue October. I got to stand right up front and i got to see some great musicians play heartfelt songs. I had heard Blue October before and I really liked two of their mainstream songs, Hate Me and Into the Ocean from their Foiled Album. It's Just Me made my eyes extra moist, but it wasn't until after he performed 18th Floor Balcony in what seemed like he was singing to me as that I had to see what his story was.
I found out that Justin has had a hard life and has battled drug addiction and bipolar disorder and worst of all heartbreak and disapointment. His music is his escape. He seems like he goes into those moments that inspired each song and you can see that there was so much pain there.
As I read more and more, and listened to his poetry I remembered how it felt to "get it OUT" to write it out and be free of it. I began to wonder about how many people he has helped through his music.
He sounds like a mix of Pink Floyd + The Fray with a twist of Staind. Thanks for a great show Blue October -- and babe, thank you for another mazing date!
