About Skin

Factors Affecting Your Skin:

Although your skin type is basically constant throughout your life, some lifestyle choices and environmental factors can affect how your skin behaves.
  • Sleep. Get 7-8 hours a night. Benefit: Your skin renews itself by building new cells while you sleep.
  • Vitamin C. Eat vitamin C-rich foods and take a supplement for extra insurance. Benefit: Vitamin C is a potent free-radical scavenger that’s known for its corrective and preventative benefits for sun- and environmentally-damaged skin.
  • Water. Drink 6-8 glasses of filtered water per day. Benefit: improved circulation and accelerated cell growth.
  • Exercise. Regularly. Benefit: moving around helps revive circulation and speeds blood flow to the surface of your skin. Added benefit: Exercise can help alleviate stress. See #5.
  • Stress. Relax your mind by exercising your body. Especially unclench your facial muscles.
Benefit: Relieving stress can mean avoiding blemishes, hives, colour loss and under-eye circles. One more thing – your mother was right: Habitually tense facial expressions can create permanent lines.
  • The “no-no’s.” Avoid them. Your skin hates alcohol, tobacco and caffeine, and will show you by losing moisture or forming wrinkles that make you look older sooner. Avoid the no-no’s and get this benefit: You’ll look younger longer. (Be aware that some medications can make skin more sensitive.)
  • Natural aging. As we age our skin becomes drier and loses elasticity, which can cause wrinkles and fine lines. How to manage: Use a specially formulated age-defying moisturizer at night to nourish and renew your skin and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
  • Sun is the most damaging of all environmental factors. Continued exposure damages and wrinkles your skin. Sun exposure is also a major cause of skin cancer. How to manage: Avoid long exposure and use a facial moisturizer with sunscreen – every day. At night use a renewal moisturizer to repair damage.
  • Low/high humidity. Low humidity robs your skin of essential moisture, while high humidity can make skin feel oily. How to manage: Nourish your skin with a good moisturizer to fight low humidity. In high humidity, that oily feeling isn't moisture – you still need a moisturizer that will help protect skin from dryness.
  • Extreme temperatures. Both cold and hot temperatures with low humidity deplete moisture from your skin and leave it tight and dry. How to manage: Nourish skin with a good moisturizer. Another hint: Use lukewarm, not hot or cold water to rinse your face.
  • Wind. Strong wind, especially with extreme temperatures and low humidity, can cause dry, flaky skin. How to manage: Re-hydrate with a good moisturizer.
  • Air pollution. Windborne dust, dirt, and smog can clog pores and choke your skin. How to manage: Protect your skin with a good moisturizer that forms a “barrier” between you and that nasty stuff floating around you. Carefully cleanse and condition every night.

the pretty pink and purple box + bangles

I have FINALLY received my Shoedazzle box and in it, some gorgeous snake skin, and suede gray on gray! I can't wait to wear them. How perfect is this shoe for fall?

I also happened to fall in love with H&M accessories. I didn't get a chance to look at their clothing selection because i wanted to look strong and in control, (also, i knew that i wouldn't be able to stuff a new article of clothing in my mini L.A.M.B bag as good as accessories. So i pretended my periferals didn't work (this was HARD) and kept my eyes on bracelets and necklaces. (Besides, you can never have too many bracelets, specially since there are soooooo many styles and colors.) I was able to walk out of H&M proud that I didn't spend too much and that i didn't get caught by my guy with "a new something".

symptoms rising up...

This blog thing has been a very useful tool to get all my nonsense out! I know there is no audience and there is no grand applause - but i keep wanting to write just about everything that is in my head. there is absolute nonsense in there right now.

Flair up:

Just went to Loehmans and got very cute JS Sunglasses! They had some cute shoes, but not enough for me to fall in love with.... However, they did have a VERY nice bag collection and great accesories. Needless to say, I had to be dragged out of the store as people are starting to see that i need intervention. Although, my friend was "kind" enough to tease me with those Pour La Victoire leather sandals that she got for a steal, and accompany me to the store that did not carry those anymore, and being brutally honest when it came to my spending, i left the store with sunglasses and my dignity.

Justification:

I got a great deal that couldn't be passed up, and I don't have aviators. Thanks!

FYI:

Who knew Elle designed chones!!! The Elle intimates are just gorgeous! (i got those last Friday) I didn't think would find so many sexy AND confortable bras and undies!

life?

Jay took me out on a mistery date, he told me dress confortable and wear flat shoes, we have to be there by 7pm. He took me to see Switchfoot and Blue October. I got to stand right up front and i got to see some great musicians play heartfelt songs. I had heard Blue October before and I really liked two of their mainstream songs, Hate Me and Into the Ocean from their Foiled Album. It's Just Me made my eyes extra moist, but it wasn't until after he performed 18th Floor Balcony in what seemed like he was singing to me as that I had to see what his story was.

I found out that Justin has had a hard life and has battled drug addiction and bipolar disorder and worst of all heartbreak and disapointment. His music is his escape. He seems like he goes into those moments that inspired each song and you can see that there was so much pain there.
As I read more and more, and listened to his poetry I remembered how it felt to "get it OUT" to write it out and be free of it. I began to wonder about how many people he has helped through his music.
He sounds like a mix of Pink Floyd + The Fray with a twist of Staind. Thanks for a great show Blue October -- and babe, thank you for another mazing date!

My Disease

It's 9:40 am, already thinking about shoes. Shoedazzle has ruined my life forever. I joined shoedazzle back in April and so far, I love what a get in the pink and purple boxes every month. Imagine the excitement of the night before christmas, and wanting to open your presents as soon as the sun came up, now put that feeling and combine it with the freedom of choice. This is what Shoedazzle does for me! I wait for day 1 of each month and I get a note in my email, (most of the time I go straight to the site because i can't wait any longer to see my choices) I log in and there they are -SHOES - 5 pairs selected for me by stylists who take into consideration that I do not like medium height shoes or boring shoes. If i don't like what they selected on round 1, I just tell them to send me more choices and 2 days later, I have a whole new selection to choose from. I pick a pair and it arrives at my house in 4 days!!! I love the shoe club -- and guess what!? TOMORROW IS THE FIRST!!!

10:30pm

Summer weekday nights... sliding glass door open, computers on, and video games in full effect. this is how we do summer at this house. It's 10:30pm on Wednesday night and I am at my most relaxed in my RUN DMC tee and vs Pink sweats. Dinner consisted of lentil and meat ball soup with steamed rice (thanks HK) and a tall glass of water. It's been a while since I've had lentils... man they were good! i suppose i should head to bed now, but for some reason i keep thinking about what Harry S. Dent Jr. was forecasting in his recently published book "The Great Depresion Ahead" talk about scaaarrryyy! Click here for a free audio sample.
This dang computer is going to be the end of me! Doesn't it know that PMS stands for short fuse? This computer is about to get DROPPED!

Ok, i have facebooked, and tweeted about it. I have collected a couple of pictures and even stored one in my itouch. I am officially jealous of Mrs. Rosdale's ripped abs! i saw them in full HD and there is definition on that washboard like nobody's business! it hasn't even been a year since Zuma was born... yes, she may have trainers and chef's but the abs are still there. They are there to smack me in the belly that was once flat before my last child - SEVEN YEARS ago! i have no excuse. i have time. I am off to the gym now. PFFFT!!!

what if...?

what if there was a parallel world in which we were all the opposite sex?
